This is an amazing destination winery within easy driving distance of Melbourne. The setting is very picturesque and the large windows in the dining room take advantage of the view. Online booking was easy. The reception on arrival was very friendly - once they were aware of our booking, they held our table while we enjoyed a wine tasting in the very comfortable lounge area of the cellar door. Immediately, you are surrounded by the rather eclectic art collection of the winery owner. We tasted all 8 available wines - the cost of the tasting was offset against our subsequent purchases. I am not sure this is standard practice but the woman who served us said they were having a good day and felt generous! The wines are all mid-range price and we enjoyed them all other than the Grenache Rose which was just not to our personal liking. I particularly enjoyed the 2019 Estate Chardonnay but did not appreciate the 2021 vintage as much - it was quite different. The Estate Pinot Noir and the Estate Sangiovese were excellent and we subsequently chose the Sangiovese to accompany our meal and took a couple of bottles with us. The meal was excellent. The servers were very friendly and happy to answer questions about the food, wine and the art collection. We had a corner table under the paintings Military Party (1&2) 2000 by Chinese Australian artist Guo Jian. This particularly piqued our interest as my wife is Chinese. One part of the painting is a rather explicit sex scene and we tried to not be caught looking at it too often. Back to the food. The small dishes that formed the first course were all delicious and were accompanied by excellent sour dough. The lamb rump main course was also excellent and we finished with a delicious chocolate cake with coffee. Afterwards, we spent about an hour walking around the large collection of outdoor sculptures and Mt Monument itself. This was an outstanding dining, wine and art experience. We were onsite for about 4 hours and enjoyed every moment.
